Casey is currently a Training Instructor and Learning Specialist with the Department of Defense. She has worked in the educational, non-profit, and government sectors to produce high quality, engaging, research-based training both online and in-person. Her work focuses on education and training via online and in-person courses, webinars, and conferences for children, adolescents, and adults. She has designed multiple online courses, managed and produced webinars, planned and coordinated a virtual conference (pre-COVID!), and consulted with federal grant-funded programs to further enhance training and technical assistance. She often works alongside subject-matter-experts to produce training in a variety of topics, including software training, and has even produced training in languages she doesn't speak!
Casey is also active in the academic community. She has written 13 peer-reviewed articles and conducted 25 presentations on a variety of topics related to research; learning; technology; and diversity, equity and inclusion. In 2018, Casey completed her Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC. During her doctoral program, she taught online courses for pre- and in-service teachers, as well as served as a e-learning course designer and facilitator. Casey is passionate about equality and social justice in education. Her teaching philosophy revolves around critical pedagogy, multicultural education, and culturally relevant pedagogy. In her work, research, and teaching, she applies a pragmatic approach to exploring how these pedagogies can be utilized within the realm of instructional design and professional training to promote learning.
